The New Amerian Immigrants

1. What 2 reasons did new immigrants have for moving into, cities and not into the country?  They wanted the immigrants to practice their customs and earn skills for their citizenship.

2. What were 2 positives and 2 negatives of americanization movement? The 2 positive things were that the subjects such as cooking and social eitquette were included into the cirriculum to help the newcomers learn new ways of being Native-Born Americans. And that many immigrants did not wish to abandon thier traditions. And the 2 negative things were that when people tried to speak their own language and practice their customs and religion the neighborhoods became overcrowded. And the other negative thing was that the arrival of new transplants from america's rural areas became intensified.

3. Would you want to abandon your traditions and learn new ones if you were a new immigrant?

4. Why did immigrants move to the cities in the first place?

5. People moved from the farms to the cities because?

labor unions

Based upon what I read labor unions were? Good in my book because they prevented the factory workers from working long hours and finally came up with a plan to shorten them.

What the sweatshop was to me? It was a environment that was dangerous and difficult. Most workers worked long hours and got little pay.

Monopolists did not want unions because? I would have to say they didnt want them because Early growth of unions led to frequent violent clashes between workers and employers. And because the government often tried to intervene.

Many factory and sweatshop owners disliked the vision of unions like the IWW because? They didnt like the workers working that long.
